The Department’s scientific and research activity can be divided into three domains:

  • Systems research focuses on modern systems theory, development of soft system methodologies, theory of complexity and certain aspects of cybernetics (including the theory of information).
  • In Information systems, attention is paid to the changing character of information systems, group and individual usage of IT and support of managerial work by information technology.
  • Management – here, both theories and applications of information management are developed. Other areas studied include modern trends of managerial work, the changing character of organizations and working with knowledge. The scientific and research efforts of the department are supported by the access to modern literature and databases.

The department organizes two annual professional conferences and publishes their proceedings:

  • International conference Interdisciplinary Information Management Talks is organized in cooperation with the Johannes Kepler University of Linz. Since 1993 it has gained an international recognition and there is always friendly atmosphere at all of the events.
  • Nation-wide conference on Systems Approaches is an annual meeting of professionals interested in modern systems approaches. Regrettably, this conference is so far the only one of its kind held in the Czech republic. To improve this situation, our department constantly strives to strenghten cooperation with similar academic and non-academic institutions in this country.

Members of the department also take part in various other national and international conferences. Details can be found in the list of their publications (search here). Members of the deaprtment also publish in professional magazines (Acta Oeconomica, Systémová integrace, Moderní řízení, Účetnictví, ComputerWorld, PC Magazine, and others).
